FATF threatens Pakistan

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has strongly condemned the terrorist attacks on CRPF jawans in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan has failed to stem the financial backing of terrorist organizations such as Jaishee Muhammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba. Pakistan has warned that it will put on the blacklist if it does not implement its 27-point action plan for the deadline for financial aid to terrorist organizations. The FATF is reportedly working towards curbing financial aid to terrorist organizations.

If blacklisted ..

Putting it on the blacklist of any country means that the country is not cooperating in the international fight to curb money laundering and terrorist financing. Incorporating the FATF Pak into the blacklist would cause financial difficulties for the country. Lenders such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and the European Community will lower that country's grade. This makes it difficult for Pak to obtain foreign loans. The FATF was formed to oversee the necessary measures to prevent illicit cash transactions and the financing of terrorists.
Like Gray List ..

The FATF puts the blacklist on the front of the Gray list and later on the blacklist of countries that do not attempt to block the money supply to terrorists. They are believed to have stopped funding the terrorists and removed them from their lists. In June last year, the FATF decided to bring Pakistan to the Gray List. The first review of the Gray List was conducted last October. Pakistan was on this list for the period 2012-15, but it was on the list again last year.
