Anglia Ruskin University Facilities


Anglia Ruskin Cambridge Campus is home to one of only six schools of optometry in England (only 9 in the whole of the UK), which has its own optometry clinic that provides free eye exams and a wide range of optometry services to members of the public throughout the academic year.


The Cambridge campus has been renovated, which began with the remodeling of Helmore, the main building on East Road, completed in 2006. In 2009, one of the greatest buildings of the University, Rackham, in the center of campus, was demolished to make way for the brand new Lord Ashcroft International Business School. The Mumford Theater, which has a number of professional touring, local community and student theater for both the public and members of the University, is located in the center of campus.

Chelmsford Rivermead campus has also seen a great development. The campus already has the Queens Building (opened in 1995) and Sawyer building (opened in 2001). The Michael Ashcroft A building was opened in 2003 (renamed Lord Ashcroft Building), the Mildmay Sports Center, and the building of Tindal, in 2005, the William Harvey Building in 2007, the Faculty building (renamed Marconi Building in 2011) in 2008 and the Postgraduate Medical Institute building, opened in 2011. The developments include minor road works to incorporate Park &
​​Ride buses on the site and the redevelopment of the Mill Pond near Bishop Hall.

Both Cambridge and Chelmsford campuses have housing for students to live in during the school year.

Ruskin Gallery

The Ruskin Gallery is the art gallery of the public university. Admission is free. Tests have included historical and contemporary art and works of students and staff. The gallery is surrounded by works of art, illustration, design and media studies. On May 9, 2011 Ruskin Gallery unveiled its new digital gallery showing the art in a digital format on HD displays, including the first Panasonic 103 "3D Full HD screen Plasma specially imported from Japan.

Profile and reputation

Anglia Ruskin University is one of the largest universities in the east of England, and one of the largest providers of part time face to face training in the country. Anglia Ruskin has itsRoyal Charter, is fully accredited by the British Accreditation Council.

In Exercise Research Assessment (RAE) 2008, 31% of Anglia Ruskin presentations were rated as internationally excellent (3 *) or world-leading (4 *), which is in 86th place in the THE ranking, an improvement of 35 positions from 2001. Among the academic disciplines now rated the world are leading Health Related Professions and Studies, Art and Design, English Language and Literature, Geography and Environmental Studies, History, Music, Psychology, Social Work and Social Policy and Administration.

Anglia Ruskin University Student Services team was recognized as the best in the country in the Times Higher Education Awards 2012.

Anglia Ruskin University was awarded first place in the Green League 2012 by People & Planet. The league is based on ten environmental criteria, both political and related results. It incorporates data obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, including the percentage of recycled waste emissions and CO2 for each individual institution.

Recent research conducted in late 2007 by the QAA reveal that as a result of its investigations, the audit team's view of Anglia Ruskin University is that confidence can reasonably be placed in the soundness of the current management of the institution and likely future of the academic standards of the awards it offers and the quality of learning opportunities for students. However, an external inspection of initial teacher training in 2010 revealed shortcomings. The areas highlighted were the effectiveness of the provision in securing high quality outcomes for students, and the extent to which the training and evaluation ensures that all students progress to their full potential because of their ability and points game. It was only the primary ITE was considered inappropriate in the inspection, secondary and FE ITE was awarded a mark of satisfactory. From this Primary ITE inspection has been awarded 'satisfactory' Ofsted degrees in May 2011 and "good" in 2012.
