New Constitutional Convention on Ayodhya
The Supreme Court of India has set up a five-member
constitutional bench on January 25 for the land dispute in Ram Mandir in
Ayodhya. The bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice Ranjan
Gogoi, is comprised of Justice SA Babde, Justice Dewey Chandrachud, Justice
Ashok Bhushan and Justice SA Nazir. The bench will hear the case from January
29, 2019. Justice Yuva Lalith resigns from the earlier bench.
The Allahabad High Court, which heard the case in 2010,
ruled that the entire 2.77-acre parcel of land should be distributed to the
Sunni Waqf Board, Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.

Train 18 as Vandebharat Express
Railways Minister Piyush Goyal said on January 27 that the

Great 70th Republic Day Celebrations
The 70th Republic Day is celebrated all over the country. A

the highest honor given during peacetime on Republic Day, was presented to

He celebrated the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma
Gandhi this year with a display of fragments of life and ideals. A total of 22
fragments participated in the parade, of which 16 were from states and union

ceremony was attended by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra
Modi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Rahul Gandhi and
other political dignitaries.

Pune-Secunderabad Centennial Railway runs between

Railway. The hygiene measures taken by the train while on the journey have made

President's approval of reservation bill
On January 12, President Ramnath Kovind signed a
ratification of the 124th Amendment-2011 Bill, which provides 10 percent
reservation for the economically disadvantaged poor (EBC). The bill became law.

was enacted by amending Article 15 and 16 of the Constitution with special
provisions for the development of economically disadvantaged people in the

Cabinet approval for Paxo law amendments
On December 28, the Union Cabinet approved amendments to the
Paxo law that would allow death penalty for girls and boys under the age of 18.
Section 4, 5, 6 of the Paxo Act (death penalty for rapists under the age of
18), Section 9 (Protection from child sexual abuse during natural disasters),
and Section 14 and 15 (Control of child pornography). This means that people
who have child pornography can be jailed or fined or both. The central
government has enacted the Poxo Act 2012 to prevent sexual offenses against
young children.

Krishak Bandhu Scheme in West Bengal
On December 31, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee
