These three islands are popular tourist destinations. The Prime Minister attended the event held at Netaji Stadium in Portblair and released a commemorative coin, postage stamp and First Day postal cover. The 150 feet tall tricolor hoisted in Modi Marina Park. Visited the cellular prison at Portblair. This is called kalapani. It is within this prison that the British government detains prominent freedom fighters. Leaders like Veerasavarkar, Battukeswara Duttu and Yogendra Shukla have been placed in cellular jails. The prison was built between 1896 and 1906. It is now a national monument.
