The University of Bath

The University of Bath (informally known as the University of Bath, Bath or simply) is acampus university located in Bath, UK. It received its Royal Charter in 1966. According to The Sunday Times University Guide, Bath is ranked as the third best university in the UK. Bath was also awarded the title of "University of the 2011/12. Research in fiscal latest assessment released in December 2008, two-thirds of the presentations of Bath individual subjects are classified in the top ten nationally, including more than a third in the top five.

The university is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the Association of MBAs, System European Quality Improvement, the European University Association and Universities UK. Until October 30, 2012, was a member of the 1994 Group.
History
Bath University can trace its roots to a technical school established in Bristol 100 years ago, the Bristol Business School, 1856. In 1885 the school became part of Merchant Adventurers theSociety and renamed Colegio Merchant Venturers' Technical (whose students are physicists Paul Dirac and Peter Higgs), an institution founded as a school in 1595. Meanwhile, in neighboring City of Bath, a pharmaceutical school, the School of Pharmacy at Bath, was founded in 1907. This became part of the Technical School in 1929.

The school came under the control of the Bristol Education Authority in 1949, but has been renamed Bristol College of Technology, and in 1960 the University of Bristol, Science and Technology, where he became one of ten colleges under the umbrella of the Ministry of Education. The school is located primarily in the former Muller Orphanage in Ashley Down, Bristol, which still houses part of the City of Bristol College, while the rest has become residential housing.

In 1963, the Robbins Committee report paved the way for the university (along with several other institutions) to assume university status.

Although the reasons for Kings Weston House in Bristol, briefly considered - that then, and until 1969, settled School School of Architecture & Engineering Construction - Bristol City was unable to provide the university expand a single site size suitable. Following talks between the rector of the School and the Director of Education at Bath, an agreement was reached to provide the university with a new home at Claverton Down, Bath, at a new location with city views.

The specially designed campus construction began in 1964, with the first building, now known as 4 South, completed in 1965, and Maine Royal Charter was granted in 1966. In November 1966, the first degree ceremony was held at the Assembly Rooms in Bath. Over the next decade, new buildings were added as the campus took shape.

City records show that there were plans in the mid-19th century to build a school of the University of Oxford in the same place, which would result in a university of a very different character. Those plans, however, did not come to fruition.

The college logo features the head of the Gorgon called, taken through the University coat of arms, from a Roman sculpture found in the city.
